Navigation

The navigation of this site consists of 3 drop down menus on the home page: INFORMATION, RUNNERS and ACCOUNT. In the event any accessibility software is unable to access these menus they are repeated as hard links beneath the image carousel. For further explanation of the guiderunning.uk database and how to use it please view How to use. In the event you are unable to access any part of this site please CONTACT US

How to use

The guiderunning.uk website is designed to enable an online database of visually impaired, blind and guide runners to grow organically and connect easily. Above all our goal is to ensure that those who wish to run - whether couch to 5k or ultra distance and those who wish to guide, whether experienced or not, have the simplest route to the information and contacts required.

In time we hope our database will offer the opportunities for runners of all experience and ability to connect. To help this happen we ask that you register a profile via the ACCOUNT link to allow other users to search for you. We have deliberately kept the fields simple for ease of reference but if you have additional information you wish to share - are you a triathlete or trail runner, highly experienced or complete novice, have a particular pace or favourite distance – this can be added to the about me section.

Once registered you can search the database by clicking the runners tab then selecting search. You can then use a series of drop down menus to search by runner type, county and town. If you are looking for an existing contact you can also search by user name. Search fields are not mandatory but each selection helps refine your results. Click the submit button below the drop downs to activate your search. Results are returned above search drop downs in table form. Click on each runner’s avatar to access their full profile.

We are aware of some accessibility issues for users of JAWS but regrettably we are not able to work around this for county and town drop down menus. CHROMEVOX will work effectively with the drop down menus, however if you are unfamiliar with this system or for any other reason cannot access the search function or no results are returned please CONTACT US.

Ethos

We want to connect visually impaired (VI), blind and guide runners of all abilities.
Specialised support networks that exist elsewhere in the world are not well established in the UK. Existing charities offer tremendous support but understandably aren`t able to focus on specific activity groups.

We get that not everyone shares our passion. But if they do, we want it to be easy for them to find like-minded people. We want to offer people the opportunity to run. We want to offer people the opportunity to learn to guide. And we want to connect those already active in the community to those wishing to join. We want people like YOU.

We have created guidrunning.uk, a self-governing meeting point that allows experienced and aspiring VI, blind and guide runners to connect. In time we hope that this environment becomes a reference point for individuals and clubs who are inspired by existing VI, blind and guide runners.

Please create an account and help build the network.

We are not an official organisation and as such cannot endorse the use of any advice shared in association with our brand. What we hope to achieve is a self-governing meeting point that allows experienced and aspiring VI and blind runners to connect with experienced and aspiring running guides alike.

In time we hope that this environment becomes a reference point for individuals and clubs who are inspired by existing VI, blind and guide runners.

Please support us in our endeavour.
